XENOPUS LAEVIS
A Luta Contra Um Invasor Oculto
Lengalenga Filmes made a mini documentary about the fight against an invasive exotic species: the African clawed frog (Xenopus laevis). The partnership, consisting of ICNF, CE3C, the municipalities of Sintra and Oeiras, and IGC, aims to control and eradicate this species, which has invaded the streams of Laje and Barcarena. But how did this amphibian end up in Portugal? Watch this curious chapter in history.

Cameras and Microphones on the Trail of the Invader
"The project that has, for the past 15 years, sought to control and eradicate the African clawed frog — an invasive exotic species in our country — stands as a rare case of success. As such, an institutional video is being produced to document the efforts of biologists fighting to protect the native biodiversity of our streams.
‘Xenopus!’ someone shouts loudly. Everyone rushes in a frenzy — some with nets, others with cameras — trying to catch the elusive African clawed frog, scientifically known as Xenopus laevis, or simply Xenopus, to its adversaries."
